From Purim to Passover: Moving from Hidden Miracles to Redemption in the Month of Nisan

Week 4 of Adar

As the Hebrew month of Adar comes to an end, we begin the transition into Nisan, the month of Passover and the season of spring. In the Jewish calendar, this shift carries us from the hidden miracles of Purim to the open redemption of Passover. It is a movement from what is concealed to what is revealed, from quiet courage to visible freedom.

During Adar, we celebrate the story of Purim, where the Divine works behind the scenes and courage appears in unexpected ways. The lessons of this month remind us that not every blessing is obvious at first. Sometimes growth happens quietly, and only later do we see how strength, resilience, and joy were developing beneath the surface.

Nisan invites us to bring those hidden blessings into the light. Passover is the story of liberation, new beginnings, and the courage to step forward into the unknown. As we prepare for this season, we are encouraged to notice what has been forming within us and to carry it with intention into the next chapter.

The rhythm of the Jewish year teaches that revelation follows preparation. The joy of Adar helps open our hearts so that when Nisan arrives, we are ready to recognize the opportunities for renewal, freedom, and growth that lie ahead.

Shabbat Table Questions for this week:

  • Purim celebrates hidden miracles, while Passover celebrates open redemption. What hidden blessing have you noticed in your life this month?
  • What part of yourself feels ready to come out of hiding — a talent, a goal, or your authentic voice?
  • What joy, insight, or courage from Adar would you like to carry with you into the new journey of Nisan and spring?

As Adar closes and Nisan approaches, may we move forward with open eyes, grateful hearts, and the courage to welcome new beginnings.
