Celebrate the Final Nights of Hanukkah in Tahoe
As Hanukkah draws to a close, the Tahoe Jewish Community (TJC) invites you to gather for a weekend of Hanukkah and Shabbat in Tahoe, offering multiple opportunities for warmth, reflection, and connection. From intimate Shabbat gatherings on Friday to Après Ski Hanukkah celebrations over the weekend, this is a chance to slow down and honor the light—together.
This winter has been a low snow season in Tahoe, reminding us of one of Hanukkah’s core teachings: to appreciate the light we have, exactly as it is. Whether you’re visiting for a winter getaway or live here year-round, these gatherings offer meaningful ways to connect during the final nights of the Festival of Lights.
Hanukkah in the Mountains—Just as We Are
There’s something especially powerful about celebrating Hanukkah in the mountains during a quieter winter season. With low snow levels this year, your day may not look like a classic ski day—and that’s okay. Perhaps your time outdoors includes a peaceful mountain walk, time by the lake, or simply breathing in Tahoe’s crisp alpine air.
Just as the Hanukkah candles invite us to pause and notice what’s present, these gatherings are about slowing down, connecting, and appreciating the beauty of this season—whatever it brings.
Weekend highlights include:
- Shabbat gatherings on Friday, Dec 19 (North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation or Markleeville General Store)
- Menorah lighting and Havdalah on Saturday and Sunday, marking the close of Shabbat and the final nights of Hanukkah
- Hot chocolate, warm drinks, and sweet treats to cozy up after time outdoors
- Community connection, song, and shared reflection under Tahoe’s winter sky
These events are welcoming to families, couples, and solo travelers looking to add warmth and meaning to their winter experience in Tahoe.
Tahoe-Style Hanukkah Fun
Après Ski Hanukkah blends Tahoe’s mountain spirit with the heart of the holiday. In this low snow season, we’re embracing the gifts of the moment:
- Quiet trails, open views, and lake visits
- A relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere
- Moments of gratitude, joy, and reflection as Hanukkah comes to a close
Whether you’re celebrating with longtime friends or meeting new faces, this gathering captures the essence of Hanukkah—finding light, warmth, and connection wherever we are.
