Mountain Judaism with a View

Jewish Retreats

One of our core pillars of Tahoe Jewish Community is creating and hosting retreat-style immersive Jewish experiences. Our retreats bring the ritual and rhythm of Jewish life into vibrant practice—through prayer, song, study, and shared meals. They invite our members into leadership and co-creation, while also welcoming visitors from across the region to connect, reflect, and deepen their Jewish identity. Each retreat is designed as a living experience of community, spirit, and renewal.

TJC/TOR Elul Camping Shabbaton

Reconnect. Reflect. Renew.
Join us for the Elul Camping Retreat, a beloved tradition for our three congregations—Temple Or Rishon and the Tahoe Jewish Community. Held from Friday, August 22 to Sunday, August 24, 2025, this Camping Shabbaton invites both seasoned campers and first-timers to unplug from daily routines and immerse in Shabbat, nature, community, and spiritual preparation for the High Holy Days.

Set amidst the beauty of Northern California, this Elul retreat offers a special opportunity to gather around the campfire, sing under the stars, explore Jewish learning, and strengthen the TOR/Tahoe community.

What is the TJC?

The Tahoe Jewish Community (TJC) is a non-profit religious organization dedicated to nurturing a vibrant Jewish community in the northern Sierra Nevada region.

It is two founding member organizations (North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation and Temple Bat Yam) collaborating to support the aspirations, needs, and opportunities of our members as well as Jewishly connected folks in our region.

It is where we embrace all those willing and wanting to support Jewish life, where we cultivate opportunities for creativity within religious interpretation and expression. The TJC intentionally connects with nature, blending Jewish spirituality with the natural world through outdoor engagement with ritual, prayer, learning, and exploration.

The TJC is where our members shape the future of our Jewish story, contributing in ways that are meaningful for today.

Sometimes we call this experience Mountain Judaism!
